How to play Capture

The grid shows a pattern of blue cells for a short time, then the pattern goes away. Click the same cells again. In the more difficult rounds, red decoy cells come on at the same time, and you must not click them. In the second part of the game the cells come on one at a time. Then you must remember the pattern while the grid still shows it.

What it shows to firms

This game measures your visual working memory. It records how many positions you can remember. It also records if the decoy cells enter your answer. It shows if your memory stays as good when the cells come on one at a time.

How to approach it
  • Remember the pattern as one shape, for example an L or a diagonal. A shape is easier to remember than a list of separate cells.
  • Do not look at the red cells to remember their positions. Look only at the blue cells.
  • When the cells come on one at a time, add each new cell to the shape in your memory. Do not make a list of positions.
  • A blue cell that you do not click costs 1 point. A red cell that you click causes a failed round. If you are not sure, click the first position that you remember.

What is the IMC Online Assessment practice?
IMC Trading tests candidates with 4 short browser games in one session. The games measure working memory, anticipation, cognitive control and attention. This practice product is specifically designed to train those skills, with 4 games we designed ourselves: Link, Align, Capture and Engage. You can practise the full session from start to end.
How long does a full session take?
A full session takes 25 to 30 minutes without a break. Each game has a short practice round with feedback. Then the main round starts. The main round adapts to you and stops when the measurement is precise. Therefore the exact length is a little different for each person.
Why does the difficulty change?
The games are adaptive. Two correct answers increase the difficulty by one step, and one error decreases it by one step. Therefore the game finds the level where you are correct approximately 70 percent of the time. A difficult game is the correct behaviour of the assessment, not a failure.
Can I stop and continue later?
You can stop between games and continue at the next game. If you stop during a game, the system deletes that game and starts it again when you return. A break during a game makes the measurements incorrect. Use one quiet session, and a desktop or laptop computer with a keyboard.
How do I read my report?
The report puts the measurements for each game into 4 skill phases. Each phase shows your relative strength in that session. The games make a compromise between speed and accuracy. Therefore a low score in one phase and a high score in another phase is usual. The real assessment behaves in the same way.
