G-Research
G-Research keeps its research and its trading on different islands. Quants in London generate the systematic signals; a separate group in Guernsey executes on them, a deliberate split that few firms bother to maintain. Founded in 2001 out of the old Gloucester Research and owned principally by Peter de Putron, it trades principal capital and discloses almost nothing.
The opacity is structural, not accidental. The firm operates through a thicket of deliberately bland-named partnerships across the UK and Cayman, which keeps its size and ownership effectively unreadable from outside; it trades as Trenchant Limited. Inside, it runs a modern research stack: FPGAs, PyTorch, Kubernetes, and a heavy investment in STEM pipelines through PhD scholarships and partnerships with Imperial, Cambridge, and Columbia. A firm built to predict global markets and to stay impossible to read while doing it.
