WorldQuant
WorldQuant runs on a contrarian belief: that thousands of weak, independently built signals beat a few strong ones. Igor Tulchinsky, a statistical arbitrage portfolio manager at Millennium for over a decade, spun the firm out in 2007 and organized it around manufacturing alphas at industrial scale, predictive signals mined from the premise that everything is information.
The most distinctive piece is BRAIN, an open platform that lets researchers anywhere develop alphas WorldQuant can evaluate and adopt, effectively crowdsourcing its raw material. That fits a footprint built across dozens of countries on the maxim that talent is global but opportunity is not, sourcing minds from Vietnam to Hungary. The firm trades primarily on Millennium's behalf and extends Tulchinsky's worldview past trading, including a nonprofit university that gives away a master's in financial engineering.
