UC Capital
UC Capital made its loudest public statement with a purchase, not a trade. In 2023 it paid USD 4.39 million for the commemorative baseball from Shohei Ohtani's 50-homer, 50-steal season, a single flash of visibility from a firm that otherwise courts none. Founder Liu Hsing-Han keeps an ultra-low profile, and the baseball remains close to the firm's only appearance in the press.
Liu built UC Capital in 2021 after leaving TripodStar Capital, the Taipei shop he had co-founded a decade earlier. It runs only proprietary capital, closer to a securities dealer's prop desk than a fund, applying statistical models and machine learning to Taiwanese equities, ETFs, convertible bonds, and CB asset swaps. Nightly strategy meetings are mandatory for every trader, a discipline meant to keep execution sharp.
