Ubiquant (九坤投资)

Ubiquant was a bet that 2010 was China's quantitative year zero. Wang Chen and Yao Qicong, both researchers at Millennium Management, left Wall Street that year reasoning that the launch of CSI 300 index futures had finally given China the instruments systematic investing needs. They formalised the firm in April 2012, and it became one of the names most associated with legitimising quant as an asset class onshore.

Headquartered near Tsinghua University, Ubiquant began as a self-operated CTA, registered with AMAC in 2014, and opened to outside money in 2016. It pivoted hard toward machine learning in 2018, standing up an AI lab and its North Star compute cluster over the following two years. Strategies span index enhancement, market-neutral hedging, CTA, and stock selection across Chinese equities and futures.
