TCI Fund Management

The name is the tell. The Children's Investment Fund Management takes its title from the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, a global charity co-founded by Sir Chris Hohn, and in its early years the fund channeled a share of profits to it, an unusual charity-linked structure for an otherwise hard-edged activist manager.

Founded in London in 2003 by Hohn, TCI runs a concentrated, private-equity-style book: deep fundamental research, a handful of large long-term positions, and direct engagement with management to close governance discounts. It added a real-estate lending arm in 2014 and opened an Abu Dhabi office in 2023, and has been among the more vocal institutional voices pressing companies on climate.
