Sumo

Sumo is less a single trading desk than a capital platform for other people's strategies. Founded in Chicago in 2007, it hands firm capital, infrastructure, and a configurable trading stack to experienced traders and emerging managers, then shares in what they produce.

That model is scaling toward institutional systematic trading. In 2025 the firm hired a former Bank of America trader to head systematic fixed income, running a multi-asset pod with meaningful capital behind it, evidence that Sumo is reaching past any day-trading prop roots toward pod-shop economics. It stays lean across Chicago, New York, and Lisbon, and deliberately trades under the domain sumo.co to keep its name clear of the many other things called Sumo.
