Quantlab

Quantlab proves you can run a serious HFT firm a thousand miles from Chicago and New York. From Houston, it reached roughly three percent of NYSE volume on active days at its peak, an outsized footprint for a Texas shop most outsiders never heard of.

A Rice University mathematics professor, Wilbur Ed Bosarge Jr., co-founded it in 1998 with Bruce Eames and staffed it with math PhDs writing algorithms tuned for ultra-low latency in heavily optimized C++. In 2017 Quantlab absorbed the proprietary trading assets of Teza Technologies, the firm built by former Citadel trading head Mikhail Malyshev, folding in its strategies and people. No clients, no outside money, by deliberate policy stated plainly on its own site.
