Mingshi Investment Management (明世投资)

Mingshi is closer to an academic spin-out than a typical hedge fund. It was co-founded in 2010 by Yu Yuan and his Wharton doctoral advisor Robert Stambaugh, a past president of the American Finance Association and longtime Journal of Finance editor, as a way to put their joint research to work. Their co-authored paper Size and Value in China sits near the center of the firm's thinking, and Stambaugh still serves as Chief Advisor.

That lineage shows in the staffing: a research- and risk-heavy bench thick with PhDs, running quantitative long/short equity, futures and options across China's onshore markets. The firm added an SFC-licensed Hong Kong arm in 2021.
