Two Wall Street veterans built a crypto HFT firm in Taipei, which is not where you would expect to find one. Jack Tan came from Deutsche Bank, Mark Pimentel from Citadel, and in 2018 they pointed traditional high-frequency techniques at digital assets, market-making across centralized and decentralized venues on the firm's own capital.

It grew into one of the larger players by volume, trading across dozens of exchanges with machine-learning-driven signals at its core. The structure has been getting simpler: in February 2026 the firm's investment arm separated into an independent venture called Proxima, leaving Kronos to concentrate on trading. Taipei anchors it, with offices in Singapore and Shanghai for regional reach.
