Jump Trading

Paul Gurinas and Bill DiSomma met in the Deutsche Mark futures pit at the CME and turned a floor partnership into one of the most secretive high-frequency firms in the world. Jump Trading, founded in 1999, has traded only its own capital ever since and has stayed privately funded with no interest in going public.

Its pursuit of speed is literal: Jump owns microwave and laser links built to shave microseconds off the Chicago to New York route between exchange data centers. The firm trades futures, options, equities, and digital assets, the last through its Jump Crypto unit, and funds physics, math, and computer-science research alongside the desks. Chicago remains home, with serious engineering weight in Austin.
