Deep Blue Capital

Deep Blue Capital keeps no traders on its books. Two mathematics professors built the Amsterdam firm around its programs and hired risk managers to watch them, nothing more, leaving statistical arbitrage models to trade thousands of securities across more than thirty equity and futures markets on their own.

The name nods to IBM's chess machine that beat Kasparov in 1996, and the engineering choices match that pedigree. The firm grew out of a research department two professors started inside another trading house in 2002, splitting off as its own company in 2008. Its technology blog dwells on PostgreSQL replication and concurrency in Ada, a systems language almost no other prop shop would reach for. Own capital only, no clients, a single flat office on Jacob Bontiusplaats.
