Cubist (Point72)
Cubist is the machine-driven counterweight inside a firm famous for human stock-pickers. Steven Cohen's Point72 made its name on fundamental long/short equity, and Cubist runs the systematic sleeve: quantitative portfolio managers building automated strategies from publicly available data across equities, futures, fixed income, and currencies.
It is led by Geoffrey Lauprete, formerly CIO and vice chairman at WorldQuant and a portfolio manager at Millennium, a pedigree that signals where Cubist sits in the systematic hierarchy. In 2023 it launched a one-year rotational Quant Academy to convert advanced-degree hires into in-house researchers rather than poach them ready-made. Cubist is not a standalone shop, it is the quant engine bolted into a multi-strategy hedge fund.
